Steps

With this, you can also avoid water leakage. Excessively deep cracks usually have a diameter measuring more than a quarter of an inch. In terms of length, this kind of crack usually measures several feet long. It is good to seek the advice of professionals first before working on this.

If the crack is just small, get a screwdriver and then use it to chip away the excess concrete in the surrounding areas. This can help you penetrate the gap even more. Aside from this, be sure to remove fractured or weakened concrete. Get the wire brush and then remove all the loose dirt and sediment. Clean the fault line using hose and water. Allow the damage to dry up before you continue working.

When the cracked area is entirely dry, prepare to use the siliconized latex concrete caulking. Get the putty knife and use it to apply caulking right onto the crack. In case you have a caulking gun, it is easier and more convenient to use than the putty knife. Do not just cover the crack. Be sure to fill it with the solution until the entire length is covered. Flatten the compound on top with the help of a trowel. A smooth finish can be achieved by wiping off the excess caulking material.

For larger cracks, ordinary latex concrete filling is not enough to fix the problem, especially when water has already leaked into the basement. Instead, use a filling comprised of concrete and sand to achieve a better grip. Use polyurethane foam to ensure that the crack is waterproofed and sealed properly.
