How to Clean Leather

Required Tools and Materials

Leather protector
Saddle soap
Cuticle remover
Cotton balls
Rubbing alcohol
Rag or cloth

Step 1

Dust the leather before you clean it. Use a cloth or rag.

Step 2

If there are spots or stains, put some rubbing alcohol on a cotton ball. Use this to wipe the stain or spot. If it doesn’t work, use a cuticle remover. Do not use a polish remover. Put the cuticle remover on the cotton ball. Leave it on the leather overnight. Wipe this by using a damp rag.

Step 3

Another way to clean leather is to use saddle soap or foam cleaner. If needed, mix the ingredients. Make sure to test the cleaner in a small area first. If it is all right, apply the cleaner. Leave the soap there for as long as the product indicates.

How to Maintain Leather Furniture

Required Materials

Vacuum
3 dry, soft rags
Distilled water
Mild moisturizing soap

Directions

Dust or vacuum the leather. Next, wipe it with a wet cloth. If there is dirt or stain, apply mild moisturizing soap. Make sure the cloth has been dipped in distilled water. Wipe the leather in a circular manner.

After wiping, get a clean rag and buff the furniture. Depending on the amount of dirt, buffing may have to be repeated numerous times. After cleaning, put on leather conditioner.

How to Keep Leather Furniture in Good Condition

Leather furniture has to be cleaned four times a year (at the start of the season). Never rinse leather furniture once you have cleaned it. Saddle soap is not recommended for leather furniture.

Neither should you use ammonia water, furniture polish oil or varnish. Do not use chemical cleaners unless they are specifically designed for the leather. Never saturate the furniture.

Tips and Warnings

Make sure leather is cleaned regularly as stated earlier. If you don’t, the leather will dry up or crack. You must always use top notch leather protectors after cleaning it.

Always apply it in an even manner. Never expose the leather to sunlight; this will cause the leather to fade or crack up. Baby wipes should not be used on leather.
