How to Fix a Dishwasher

Below you will find some common dishwasher problems and how to troubleshoot them.

Dead Dishwasher

If your dishwasher refuses to turn on even if you have already switched it on, there could be a number of reasons for this. First, check that it is properly plugged into the power outlet and that the outlet has power supply.

Next, see if there is a blown fuse or a circuit breaker that’s tripped. If the dishwasher is plugged securely and there is no problem with the fuse or the circuit breaker; your next option is to check the switch.

Take a voltage tester and with the cover of your switch open, clip the corresponding probes to see if the tester will light up. If the tester lights up, your switch is in good condition; otherwise, take a new matching switch and replace the old one.

You should also check that the door latch is tightly secured and that the appropriate settings are indicated on the control panel.

No Water Flow

Water supply for your dishwasher comes straight from your water heater and it is not connected with your cold water supply. If there is no water flowing into your dishwasher, check if you have turned on your water. Sometimes, we do forget to turn on the water and we start to panic when the dishwasher doesn’t work.

If you have turned on the water and you still see no water flow; the problem may lie with your water heater. Check your sink taps in the kitchen and bathroom to see if you can get hot water.

If you don’t, troubleshoot your water heater. On the other hand, if you do get hot water; you may have to look deeper into your dishwasher.

In this case, if you are uncomfortable opening your dishwasher and taking each component out to see if this is working properly; now may be the time to call for professional services.

Note: Remember to turn off your power and water supply before troubleshooting your dishwasher to avoid accidents.
