How to Repair Cracks on Paint Work

Sunday, January 3rd, 2010

While repairing cracks on paint work is essential, some people are hesitant because Repair Cracks on Paint Workhiring someone to do it can be costly in these times. However, the following techniques will show you how to do it.

Required Tools and Materials

Scrapper
Cement grouting
Paint
Gypsum gauze
Adhesive
Filler
Sandpaper
Primer

Step 1

Begin by taking off any ornaments around on the wall. Before any work is done, a proper assessment of the extent of the damage is needed. Once you have an idea, it’ll be easier to procure the necessary supplies.

Step 2

Use the scrapper to get rid of the filler. Rub it down. Keep using the scrapper until the crack becomes visible. When repairing cracks on paint work, it may be necessary to go 5 mm deep to get to the plaster.

Step 3

Get the cement grouting and combine it with paint. Follow the instructions that came with the grouting to get it ready. Keep mixing the two until the color resembles that of the wall. Fill the crack with this mixture.

Step 4

Put as much gypsum gauze as necessary to conceal the crack. Be sure the gauze has some adhesive. When you’ve put enough, allow it to dry for 60 minutes.

Step 5

When the gauze has dried, apply filler mixed with some paint on it. Those who are repairing cracks on paint work should apply the filler paint as uniformly as possible. The spread should be at least 500 mm. You can make this bigger if you want. Allow this to dry for an hour.

Step 6

Look at the crack. If it’s well covered, you can start rubbing in the sandpaper. Add some more of the filler and use the sandpaper as you did before. By this time the entire surface area should be smooth.

Step 7

Apply primer on the surface. Let it dry. Apply a coat of paint. Allow it to dry for 45 minutes or an hour. Add more coat layers if you want.

Tips and Warnings

For those repairing cracks on paint work for the first time, it’s important you paint the surface evenly. An uneven paint or fill will create rough spots. The type of paint used is also vital. To help minimize repair work, keep in mind that typical house paint lasts for two to three years before retouching is needed.

Even if the paint looks okay, touching it up will keep it strong. You shouldn’t wait for the wall to deteriorate completely before working on it.

The most common reasons for cracking paint are plaster, slamming the wall with large objects and scratching.

Wear old clothes when working; you don’t want new clothes getting smeared with paint. Wear a face mask when painting so the paint doesn’t get to you. Do not use paint with lead.

Repairing cracks on paint work can be time consuming but it isn’t arduous or beyond your capability. This is a skill that’s worth learning, so you’ll never have to pay someone to do it again.

How to Build a Go Cart

Saturday, January 2nd, 2010

Building a go cart requires more than just welding some Build a Go Cartpipes here and there. A lot of planning is required before the first piece is welded.

Required Tools and Materials

Chalk
Pencil
Design plans
Tape measure
Sheet metal
Brake and throttle kit
Tubing (round or square)
Tubing bender
Engine mounting plate
Welding tools or metal saw
Pipe
Steering assembly

Step 1

Sit on the floor as if you’re in the go cart. Draw an outline around your body. This will be the space in the go cart. Decide if there’ll be one or two seats. Get up. Jot down the figures from the widest section and the one through the middle.

Multiply these figures by two. Add 6” to the result. This is the cart width. Put in 1” to the cart length. Mark 6” at the back and front.

Step 2

To start building a go cart, create the go cart frame. To avoid difficulties, use a 1”-1’ scale system.

Step 3

Put the pipe on the floor. Set the cross pipe at the 6” spot you marked. Weld it. Get a pipe that is 8” wider than what you need. Weld it to the front to make the front bumper. For the rear, weld a pipe 4” wider than the go cart frame.

Step 4

2” from the middle of the pipe you joined together, mark the ends. Weld a tube 4” vertically. Weld it at the mark you made. Next, get a pipe the same length of the go cart frame. To continue building a go cart, weld it 4” from the middle of the passenger’s side.

Step 5

Mark 1 ½” from the frame’s front. Weld a tubing along that point. Continue to the frame’s edge up to the welded pipe.

Step 6

Get the metal sheet. Weld it to the width and length of the go cart. Remember to add 1” to the length.

Step 7

Set the engine mounting plate properly before welding it. Take the steering kit. Go over the instructions and install it as directed.

Step 8

Take out your brake and throttle kit. These kits are installed in different ways; follow the instructions as stated.

Step 9

You are almost done building a go cart. Get your seats and position them in the cart. Find the most comfortable spot for the seat and install it. If installing a passenger seat, install it too.

Step 10

Take out your engine and set it on the engine plate. Link the chain. Connect the wheels to the go cart.

Tips and Warnings

You can use round and square tubing during construction. Try using the round tubing when working on the axles and squares for the frame. Remember that the go cart dimensions should be commensurate to the person riding it. Protect your eyes at all times when welding. Take all necessary precautions when testing the go cart.

Building a go cart is not easy. But with enough planning, creating your dream go cart won’t be too far off.

How to Fix Burst Water Pipes

Friday, December 25th, 2009

To have burst water pipes can be a very difficult problem. Fix Burst Water PipesAside from being messy, it can cost a lot of money to hire professional plumbing services. With the help of simple and inexpensive patch kits, anyone can now perform this easy task. For a little more than $10, you can solve this problem instantly by knowing how to fix burst water pipes.

Materials Needed

For this project, you need to bring a bucket of water, preferably one gallon. Next, protect your hands by wearing heavy-duty rubber gloves. Finally, prepare some patch kits for the leaks. Once you have gathered these simple materials, you can begin this job immediately.

Steps

The very first thing you have to do is to find the leak. Most of the time, this problem happens in areas that are hard to reach. This is the advantage of using a patch kit rather than cutting out the pipe to fix the damage. As long as it is possible for you to reach the damage, these steps will definitely work.

After locating the damaged part, sand it to make its surface more tactile than the usual smooth texture. For this step, you can use either 80-grit or 100-grit sandpaper. When the area is rough enough, get the patch kit and then unroll it. Try it first if it can be wrapped around the damage part easily. You have to work fast here because when the patch gets wet, it can bond right away.

Wear the rubber gloves and slowly moisten the patch. Go next to the burst pipe and then wrap the patch around it right away. When the patch is wet enough, it must be used immediately to prevent it from going to waste. Begin the wrapping process from the leak and then slowly work your way out and over it until the patch is secured tightly in place. This may take a couple or more rounds depending on the length of the patch and the size of the pipe to be fixed.

Get another patch and then wrap it around both sides of the initial patch that you applied. This can make your work more durable and longer lasting. You can move your way from one side and then over the first patch and then to the other side until this material runs out. Tighten up your work by pressing your hands over the patched areas. Squeeze out all the air just to be sure. Allow it to dry and then check if the pipes are working fine.

Additional Tips and Other Helpful Information

Usually, a patch kit comes with a pair of rubber gloves. It is important to wear them while working to protect your hands from the harsh elements found in the patch.

How to Fit New PVC Guttering

Thursday, December 24th, 2009

If you’re fitting in PVC guttering, you need to prepare these tools. Fit New PVC GutteringYou’ll probably need several types of screwdrivers, so having a set is ideal.

Required Tools and Materials

Screws
Rawplugs
Drill
Fascia brackets
Spirit level
A set of screwdrivers

Step 1

Begin by taking out the old gutter. When the gutter has been removed, take out the other fittings as well. Look at the fascia boards. If they need to be fixed or replaced, do it now. Do not put in new gutters on dilapidated wood; this will destroy the roof.

Step 2

Begin by securing in the running outlet (that’s the part that links the guttering on the down pipe). When fitting in PVC guttering, you need to set this above the drain. Use the 1 in or 1 ¼ in screwdrivers (steel plated type is recommended).

Step 3

Head over to the farthest point in the entire structure. Fasten in the fascia bracket utilizing a 1” screw. Place it around 100 mm along the furthest point. Proceed by stringing a line in the midst of the bottom bracket and the outlet’s bottom.

Utilize the spirit level to make certain of a fall heading to the outlet. The ideal fall is about 1 in 600 (an inch in 50 ft). However there are different falls around, so check the one your system employs.

Step 4

The next stage to fitting in PVC guttering is to install the fittings along the fascia. As a rule, fascia brackets are installed every 3 ft. Yours may be different, so check first. Use the gutter unions to fasten each gutter part. Most of them are 4 meters long. For corners, 90 degree angles are employed.

Step 5

When the fittings are in, install the gutter. Ensure the gutter lines are aligned with the marks on the fittings’ insides. Ensure the neoprene seals are at the gloves. Slide the gutter’s back below the fittings clip. Put pressure on the clips’ underside per fitting.

To make sure you’re fitting in PVC guttering correctly, you need to pull down the front edge while administering this pressure. You’ll know you’re doing it right when it snaps on.

Step 6

The next step is to put in the down pipe. Start by fastening in the plumb line in the middle of the outlet. When you get the vertical line, drill the down pipe clips. You’ll need some rawplugs for this job as well as 1 ½” x 10” screws. Loosely fasten each bracket.

Note:
if the fascia board is affixed from a wall, get two 112 degree pipe bends and another small pipe. Cut them to the right size. After making the swan neck, set the top socket in the outlet. Press the pipe down.

Step 7

Fasten the pipe with the 1st clip’s screw. Add screws every 1.8 meters in a vertical manner.

The final step to fitting in PVC guttering is to join the down pipe on the drainage system. You’ll need a rainwater pipe to drainage adaptor. After this step, you’re done.
