Hardwood floor is very beautiful, classy and elegant. Many people love this particular type of floor inside their homes because it is very attractive. However, various kinds of damages can significantly affect its overall appearance. One of the most common problems is scratching, which when left untreated can lead to further problems. Be able to restore the fine appearance of your floor by learning how to repair hardwood floor scratches.

Materials Needed

For this moderately easy task, you can start by gathering all the important materials. Among the different items you need for this job are steel wood pad, wood cleaner and a couple of cloths. In addition, you must also bring in a wax wood repair stick, a scouring pad as well as mineral spirits.

Steps

Before fixing the scratches, clean the floor first, especially the scratched areas. For this, apply a small amount of wood cleaner on a nice clean cloth. Use the cloth to remove the grime and dirt completely. After this, you have a better way of identifying the different parts that need repair.

Get the steel wool pad and then scrub it onto the scratched areas. Apply significant amount of pressure that is enough to buff out all the scratches. However, do not apply too much pressure as this may cause further damage and can make the scratches more visible. Slightly buff through the edges to make the sanding process look more natural.

Get the wax wood repair stick and then rub it onto the scratched areas. Remember to use a stick that has a matching color with the floor. Its three main colors are brown, clear and blonde. When planning to fix scratches, it is better to use the brown and blonde variants rather than the clear one because it can make the scratches look more noticeable.

When fixing the scratches, be sure that no one else is in the house. This way, there is no one to affect the results. Before you walk or touch the floor, wait for about 10 minutes. This will give the wax enough time to set in on the hardwood. After the waiting time is over, use the extra clean cloth to wipe the repaired areas clean. Enjoy beautiful and nice looking floors.

Additional Tips and Other Helpful Information

In case the hardwood is finished with polyurethane, get the scouring pad and then dip it into mineral spirits before you use it on the scratches. Never wax the floor if it is coated with a layer of polyurethane. This can do nothing to help you especially if you are planning to re-coat it.
