Most of the time, it’s very easy to repair a recliner. Although various problems can arise, a majority of them can be fixed with the following equipment.

Fixing Loose Screws and Bolts

Loose screws can be fixed by tightening them with a Philips or flathead screw. If the problem has to do with the nuts or bolts, you can secure them with the adjustable wrench. The type of wrench you need to use depends on the nuts or bolts installed.

Problems with the Handle

If the trouble is with the footrest handle, you need to secure the fasteners that are connecting it to the chair. To repair a recliner with a broken handle, you need to get a replacement. Check the specifications so you can get the right part. To avoid problems, get one from the same company.

Fixing a Cracked Wood Base

If the wood is splintering, you need to put in some wood glue. Locate the cracking parts and put the wood glue on it. Make sure you put in enough glue. Keep the clamps on until the glue has dried totally. If the old wood has splintered, make the old wood as a pattern. You can then secure it to the recliner.

Fixing a Broken Metal Base

One way to repair a recliner with a metal base is to put in one made of wood. Take the metal base. Use it as a pattern and slice it. Now you can make a wood frame to install in the recliner. Secure the chair on this base.

Fixing the Tears in the Covers

The easiest way to fix holes and tears is to get replacement covers. Before getting a patch, you should take note of the color, texture, pattern etc so the patch won’t be obvious. These patches can be put in place in various ways.

A lot of them are self sticking; you slice the patch and the adhesive and place it on the recliner. Check the directions for the patch you bought and follow it.

Tips and Warnings

To make it easier to repair a recliner, buy several sets of nuts, bolts, screws and wrenches. You probably won’t use them all. But having several types is a good idea so you won’t be left looking for one that works.

If you can afford it, buy an upholstery repair kit. This means you don’t have to get one in case it gets damaged. Do not put weight on the chair that is beyond its capability to support. Keep in mind that a fixed chair does not mean it is exactly as good as new.

Before using the chair, be certain that it is sturdy enough. When using glue on any part, make sure you give it enough time to dry. Not doing so will compromise the repair job.

Learning how to repair a recliner is not hard. As long as you know where to look, getting rid of common problems shouldn’t be that complicated.
