How to Build Muscle Without Weights

It is a fact that the fastest way to build muscle is to use machines and weights. Using them will help one gain size and strength more efficiently. However, there are times when you can’t work out at the gym. There will always come moments where all that equipment won’t be available.

You might be on vacation in a place where there is no gym around. Another reason is that some people just can’t afford to purchase weights and equipment. Whatever reason there might be, some people will have to find a way to build muscle without weights.

Push Ups

Push ups are one of the best ways to gain body strength and work out without using any weights. You don’t really have to do push ups to exhaustion but there are a couple of things you can do to make this exercise a lot tougher than it looks. First, you can increase the number of repetitions and the second thing you can do is to get items you can put on your back as you do push ups.

Increasing the Repetitions per Set

Increasing the repetitions of exercises will help you build muscle without weights. All you have to do is to perform the exercise motions just as they are. The only difference is that you will do is to do more reps per set. A secondary effect of this technique is that your endurance will increase. By the time you can finally get back to the gym doing lower reps your endurance will have grown in order to gain faster.

This won’t usually grow your muscles as quickly as working out with weights. But it will surely give you a bit of results as long as you keep on working on it. As stated earlier, you can add weights on your back each time you do push ups.

You can have someone sit on your back as you do push ups if you’re really that strong. Other than that you can load up a backpack with books and do push ups with the backpack on. Take note that this will work not only on push ups but on other exercises as well.

Reduce Rest Time

This is another technique you can do in order to build muscle without weights. You can start off by giving yourself a minute to rest before starting with the next exercise. After doing this for some time, you then reduce the amount of rest time to 45 seconds. After that you can reduce the rest time to 30 seconds.

For example, you can do chin ups until you get really tired. After repeating your last set, wait only a few seconds and then you can start off with another set. However, with the next few sets, you can only do fewer repetitions. Don’t worry; you will build muscle without weights with this technique.
